Christian R Pongratz, is Interim Dean at SISE and Professor of Architecture and Interdisciplinary Studies at NYIT. Previously founding director of the M.S. Digital Design and Fabrication Program at TTU. A licensed architect in Germany, he also worked in New York for Peter Eisenman and John Reimnitz, and co-founded with Maria Perbellini, pONGRATZ pERBELLINI Architects, a research oriented atelier investigating digital fabrication, robotics and computation with material processes. Since 2003, they are collaborating with a pool of leading Italian stone companies and in 2008 theirHyperwave stone cladding product design received the segnalazione Compasso d’oro XXI, awarded by ADI, Italy, with inclusion into the historical design collection and the cultural patrimony of Italy, and into the archive of Material ConneXion New York.
Their research on the digital to material grew into several books, and together with Maria, he co-authored and designed the monograph Peter Eisenman, (C3 1997), “Natural born CaaDesigners”, (Birkhaeuser 2000), “Cyberstone”, a book investigating digital design and fabrication with natural stone, (Edilstampa 2009), "Digital Media for Design" textbook (Cognella Academic Publishing 2015), and online "Digital Design and Fabrication" (ISSUU 2015), and he co-authored "Urban Stage" (with White D., ISSUU 2015).
